Bedfordview’s Dr Lilli makes Mrs SA top 25

She attributed her success so far in the competition to hard work and dedication.

Bedfordview resident Dr Lilliana Lulli-Marucchi has begun her journey and preparation for the crowning of this year’s Schwarzkopf Professional Mrs South Africa.

Dr Lulli-Marucchi was one of 25 women announced on April 29 as the finalists who will compete at the finale in October.

The NEWS caught up with Dr Lulli-Marucchi, who works as a community service doctor at Tembisa Hospital.

She attributed her success so far in the competition to hard work and dedication.

“In the last month I have managed to get Maserati on board as my sponsor throughout my time in the competition. I am grateful for the support I have received from the company,” she said.

As a practicing doctor, Dr Lulli-Marucchi said her passion lies in mental health as well as basic gynaecological education among teenagers.

She has since partnered with two charities, namely Dance for a Cure and Dignity Dreams.

“Dance for a Cure is a non-profit organisation established in 2007. Their main objective is to raise awareness of cervical cancer in South Africa and to raise funds to vaccinate children and young women against the Human Papilloma Virus (HPV), a virus that causes cervical cancer. Dignity Dreams supplies school girls from disadvantaged communities with reusable sanitary towels. Girls often have to miss school when it is their period, mostly because they cannot afford sanitary towels. The organisation believes every young girl deserves to enter womanhood with confidence and knowledge, and part of their promise is to disseminate information about menstrual health,” she said.

A cancer survivor herself, Dr Lulli-Marucchi said these charities are in-line with her passion.

She said she is in talks with Dignity Dreams to back her initiative to teach girls in schools throughout Tembisa about basic gynaecological health.

She said the competition has challenged her to become a better doctor and wife.

Dr Lulli-Marucchi said come women’s month, her love for luxury sports cars will meet her passion for cancer awareness.

“I am supporting the Cuppa for Cansa and busy cooking something interesting in celebration of women and raising awareness about cancer,” she said.

Dr Lulli-Marucchi urged residents to follow her Mrs SA journey on social media.
