Terrace Road to get permanent speed camera

"Until recently, the promises and undertakings of the previous MMC, since 2013, have failed to materialise."

Speeding along Terrace Road has been a never-ending concern for residents and motorists of Edenvale.

These concerns have been highlighted over numerous years in articles published by the NEWS.

Terrace Road has been the scene of multiple accidents as a result of speed and other causes.

“I can confirm that the speed control interventions fought for since 2006 will come to fruition with the installation and commissioning of a permanent speed camera on Terrace Road, Edenvale,” said Clr Bill Rundle, the ward 19 councillor.

By implementing measures such as a permanent speed camera, speeding along Terrace road will hopefully be reduced. This should reduce the amount of accidents, fatalities and near fatalities, such as the accident that happened on April 5, 2013, along Terrace Road.

The NEWS reported in 2013 that the Terrace Road accident of April 2013 claimed the lives of Wesley Simpson, Tamlyn Lewis, Slade Matthews and Angelia Maree.

The collision occurred when a speeding motorbike collided with a car at the intersection of Terrace and Columbus roads.

“We have attended many accidents on Terrace Road. This one was one of the most gruesome,” said a member of the Ekurhuleni Emergency Services (EES).

April 2016 marks the three-year anniversary of this collision.

The 2013 collision resulted in numerous outcries from the community for measures to reduce speeding along the road.

“Until recently, the promises and undertakings of the previous MMC, since 2013, have failed to materialise. Resolutions for the Terrace Road problem began to gain momentum after direct approaches and appeals to the head of department of the traffic control division of the National Prosecuting Authority were made,” said Clr Rundle.
