JUST IN: Edenvale Hospital staff allegedly refuse to remove dead fetus from woman

She was told to go home and wait for labor pains.

A pregnant woman who lost her baby was allegedly turned away from Edenvale Hospital today without assistance in having the fetus removed from her womb.

(UPDATE: Health department awaits more information on allegations against hospital.)

According to Bez Valley Pastor Justin Morgan the woman had been at the hospital since 3.30am today when she was told her baby was dead.

She was told to go home and wait for labor pains.

At approximately 4.30pm the hospital allegedly admitted the woman to induce labor.

Pastor Morgan said that hospital staff acted “unprofessionally” and that they had shown very little sympathy for the woman.

At the time of publishing, head of communication for the Gauteng Department of Health could not provide comment as he was in a meeting.

Gauteng Department of Health head of communication Mr Steve Mabona said the department is awaiting more information.
