Sebenza CPF unpacks its plans for 2016

The SCPF chairperson, Mr Andrew Mosesi, said one of their main goals is to establish a youth forum that will address substance and alcohol abuse.

In unpacking its plans for this year, the Sebenza Community Policing Forum (SCPF) said community safety is its common goal.

It believes that partnerships and working together with SAPS against crime will not be easy unless it works off strategic plans in this matter.

The SCPF chairperson, Mr Andrew Mosesi, said one of their main goals is to establish a youth forum that will address substance and alcohol abuse.

They also want to establish a Women’s Desk where women can have confidential consultation with regards to domestic abuse, children rehab and crime.

“We want to establish a victim support committee which will consist of professionals and public representatives, such as lawyers, doctors, psychologists, social workers and social development. CPF/SAPS awareness campaigns should happen every quarter from March to December 2016. These campaigns will be used to highlight crime, substance abuse, women and child abuse,” said Mr Mosesi.

He said information boards will be installed in major entrances of sector 1 and sector 2. These boards will give sector contact numbers and highlight important CPF meeting dates for the community. He also said some of their long term goals include the installation of CCTV cameras in major entrances of sector 1 and sector 2. Mr Mosesi urged the business community to assist with funding for the projects.

“The CPF needs to acquire equipment to be used during operations, campaigns and community crime prevention events. These include, torches, reflectors, strobe lights, the Sebenza CPF banner, a roll-up banner, a butterfly banner, gazebo and t-shirts for patrollers. These will be acquired as and when funds become available,” he said.

“The CPF executive, sub-forums, volunteers generally, members of SAPS and the community at large will be of great assistance in realising our dreams and achieving our goals. These efforts will result in a crime-free Sebenza SAPS. We are determined to keep criminals away from our areas. If they do come, they will be dealt it,” said Mr Mosesi.
