#YourStory – Kazakov dedicated to development

When he moved to South Africa 15 years ago, Kazakov joined the Greek Sporting Club and was part of the development of many players.

It is often said that the future of any country is its youth and retired soccer player and coach Plamen Kazakov wants to contribution in the development of tomorrow’s future leaders.

Kazakov has been appointed as the head coach of the recently-opened Sporting Club Portugal South African Academy, situated at Reddam House.

The academy will admit children from the ages of six to 12 years. Children between 13 and 17 will be admitted for support classes.

He said he is looking forward to imparting his skills onto children who are aspiring to become professional soccer players.

Kazakov was born in Varna, a town in Bulgaria.

He has played soccer at professional level in three continents as a midfielder and offensive striker.

“At some point, I was the top goal scorer for my country and Portugal,” said Kazakov.

When he moved to South Africa 15 years ago, Kazakov joined the Greek Sporting Club and formed a big part of the development of many players.

He told the NEWS he is excited to have the opportunity to share his experience with soccer-loving children in the area.

“For me it is more than just football, it is more about the discipline I will get to instil in children. My slogan is respect, perform and enjoy,” he said.

Kazakov said his ultimate goal as a coach is to see the children happy and performing to the best of their ability.

When he is not playing soccer or coaching, Kazakov said he can be found socialising.

“I like to interact with other people because that’s how we learn as people,” said Kazakov.

Asked where he sees himself in the next five years, Kazakov said, “It’s not about me. I love what I do and it is for the benefit of the children, who will be tomorrow’s influential citizens. So my dream is to see them succeed and grow in discipline,” said Kazakov.
