Traffic diverted as Court removes illegal billboard on Van Buuren

Traffic has been diverted to other roads and residents and motorists are advised to take alternative routes.

Until 3pm this afternoon, the stretch of Van Buuren Road between Kloof and Nicol roads will be closed to traffic.

This is to allow the removal of the billboard gantry that has been an eyesore for residents for years.

The billboard was put up illegally.

According to Ms Jacqueline Pillay a legal representative of the City of Ekurhuleni (COE), the removal of the gantry was ordered by the high court in August.

On its official Facebook page, COE warned residents of the road closure. “Please note [a] portion of Van Burren Road [has been] closed due to the removal of an illegally erected billboard gantry by EMPD and the Sherrif of the High Court,” read the post.
