Understanding collagen

It is important as with any supplement, to confirm with your Doctor if you have any pre-existing medical condition before starting

What is Collagen?

Collagen is the key component of the basic structures of the human body and the connective tissue, composing 30 percent of the total body proteins and 75percent of the protein that makes up skin.

It is the protein that forms all connective fibers in tissues such as:

  •  Skin
  •  Ligaments
  •  Cartilage
  •  Tendons
  •  Joints
  •  Bones
  •  Gums
  •  Teeth

Collagen acts as a kind of intracellular “glue” that gives support, shape and bulk to blood vessels, bones, and organs such as the heart, kidneys and liver. It is also required to restore blood vessels, bruises, and broken bones.

As the most abundant protein in the body, Collagen accounts for more mass than all the other proteins put together.

So, Collagen is responsible for:

  •  The outer body (skin and hair)
  •  The flexibility & mobility of the body’s structural components (cartilage & joints)
  •  The smooth functioning of internal organs
  •  The maintenance of good form for blood vessels and bone density

As we age, our body tends to produce less Collagen at a declining rate of about 1,5percent per year from the age of 25 onwards. As a result, bones lose density, joints become more rigid, hair volume decreases, skin elasticity lessens and muscles weaken.

The number and activity of skin cells (fibroblasts), which produce collagen, decreases.

As fibroblasts become less active, the collagen matrix which provides skin firmness and structure, starts to break down. Skin then becomes dehydrated

and thinner, plus, fine lines, wrinkles and deep furrows start to appear.

The ageing process is also accelerated by several external factors:

  •  Pollution
  •  Smoking
  •  Excessive sun exposure
  •  Stress
  •  Certain diseases
  •  Long-term use of certain drugs/medications

Since sufficient quantities of Collagen cannot be provided through the consumption of different kinds of food, the intake of Hydrolyzed Collagen is

essential.

Hydrolyzed Collagen supplementation, is important for our body because:

  •  It is easily absorbed (high percentage of bioavailability)
  •  It releases three times more amino acids which are essential for the synthesis of new Collagen in the body. Supplementation of 10000mg (which is the required daily serving dose), of clinically proven Premium Quality Hydrolyzed Collagen is necessary for beauty and wellness benefits (skin, hair, nails, joints) and for preserving a youthful appearance.

It is important as with any supplement, to confirm with your Doctor if you have any pre-existing medical condition before starting. Make sure also, that the type of Supplement you choose is of the highest quality and an adequate ‘dosage’ to achieve the desired result.
