The Angel of Bedfordview

Clr Humphreys said it would be her dream to one day see every household with a well kept garden.

While aome have called her the angel of Bedfordview and others prefer to call her superwoman, the ward 20 councillor, Clr Jill Humphreys, prefers to call herself a caring resident.

Clr Humphreys is always at her residents’ disposal and regardless of the time of day, she takes complaints and follows up on inquiries.

Residents have sung her praises.

“Since taking office, Clr Humphreys has brought us close to the runnings of local government. We know more now about processes at council and most importantly, we know that she keeps pushing for better service delivery on our behalf,” said resident, Mr Muxe Shivambu.

Passionate about gardening, Clr Humphreys said it would be her dream to one day see every household with a well kept garden.

“My heart is in conservation and gardening and I would like to make Bedfordview a gardening community,” she said.

Asked why she is as devoted as she is in her work, Clr Humphreys said, “Well, I care”.

Some of the plans she has for Bedfordview include getting permanent security at the Bill Stewart Nature Reserve.

“It would also make me happy to see residents taking over their public spaces and making them their own,” she said.

Her Facebook group created for the community is currently standing at over 4 200 members.

She said she believes in a community that stands together.

“There is power in a community that holds hands and cares for each other. We lead busy lives and there may be no time to meet over coffee. This group provides the community a platform to engage and share,” said Clr Humphreys.

She said her passion for people and the community makes her want to do more to assist as much as she can.
