Modderfontein’s rich and interesting history will be highlighted twice during Heritage Month, with a talk and a walk featuring Mr Robbie Vermont.

On September17, at the Modderfontein Conservation Society’s (MCS) monthly evening meeting, Mr Vermont will present his illustrated talk, Modderfontein – Then and Now, at 7.30pm in the Modderfontein Town Hall.

On Heritage Day, September 24, the MCS has arranged to have The Dynamite Company Museum and historic Franz Hoenig Haus open for public viewing between 9am and 12.30pm.

Mr Vermont will conduct his Fact & Fable walking tour through the village’s historic precinct on the day at 9am.

“The walk will last about two hours. The cost of the tour will be R30 per person and the proceeds will go to the MCS,” said Mr Vermont.

Booking for the walk is essential as numbers are limited.

Back in 1968, Mr Vermont said he took part in tour of Modderfontein which left a lasting impression on him.

“It resulted in an enduring love of the area and I eventually moved here about 14 years ago,” said Mr Vermont.

He has been a member of the Modderfontein Conservation Society for over 20 years.
