Ten/10 runners tell their tale

"I am grateful for the adventure. Not only was I running for the animals but when I met Hazel, she became my friend."

Ten/10 runners, Ms Hazel Moller and Ms Michelle Mareë, have completed their epic adventure.

The pair endeavoured to run 10 Comrades Marathon distances in 10 days, with the final day seeing the pair competing in the actual Comrades Marathon.

The women decided to take on this challenge to raise money for the charity organisation Pet Empowerment in Townships (PETS).

PETS seeks to assist pet owners in townships.”Participating in the Ten/10 was extremely tough; the amount of the strain on my body was hectic. Running the route we did was a lot to take in,” said Ms Moller.

“I am grateful for the adventure. Not only was I running for the animals but when I met Hazel, she became my friend. The bond we share is amazing and we are similar in many ways,” said Ms Mareë.

“I started this event last year and could not finish all 10 races but this year I promised myself that I would,” said Ms Moller.

“I was concerned that no one would join me this year, as many were preparing themselves for the Comrades. I had advertised it and posted it on social media platforms and then Michelle she said. During the race, Michelle had taken off a few days due to illnesses caused by running the long distances. It was difficult to run while Michelle was home, she was the only person on my mind. She was my partner and I needed her,” said Ms Moller.

“I felt so bad because I volunteered to be a part of this adventure, but I remember the day of my return when I drove past Hazel and waved. She was so happy to see me,” said Ms Mareë.
