Large parts of Edenvale have been left without water since yesterday.

“The Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality (EMM) is aware of the water supply interruption affecting the Edenvale CBD and the surrounding areas,” said the spokesperson for the municipality, Mr Themba Gadebe.

Ekurhuleni and Rand Water technicians are currently on-site investigating the cause of the interruption and will be working around the clock to speedily restore water to the affected areas.

The affected areas are Dunvegan, Dowerglen and Marais Steyn Park.

There is still no clear indication as to what caused the supply of water in Edenvale to be cut off.

This morning, the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality (EMM) tweeted that the water shortage was the result of a burst water pipe.

No turnaround time was given to repair the problem.

Despite this, several residents have been told the shortage was the result of a water reservoir having run dry.

In the meantime, tankers have been deployed to Edenvale to assist residents.

Roving water tankers are deployed at the following locations:

  • Edenvale Civic Centre, situated at the corner of Van Riebeeck Avenue and Hendrik Potgieter Street.
  • Parking at SPAR in Elm Street, Marais Steyn Park.
  • Dunvegan Primary School, Dunvegan Avenue.

The EMM call centre can be contacted on 0860 643 000.
