Humphreys reveals plans for Bedfordview

She said one of her priorities was to make sure that potholes, water leaks and sewage problems were fixed.

Although she has only been on office for a few months, the ward 20 councillor, Clr Jill Humphreys, has hit the ground running.

The NEWS caught up with Clr Humphreys who shared her vision for the ward.

She said one of her priorities was to make sure that potholes, water leaks and sewage problems were fixed, something which according to her, is an ongoing challenge.

“It is necessary to keep these working properly as they are an essential part of everyday life. I will do what I can to make sure of that,” said Clr Humphreys.

She added that she would be introducing a pavement garden competition in the suburb.

“My heart is in conservation and gardening and I would like to make Bedfordview a gardening community, hence the idea of the pavement competition,” she said.

Clr Humphreys said she has plans in place to address the concerns as far as the Bill Stuart Nature Reserve is concerned.

She has also launched a ‘take back the mountain’ campaign.

“It is beautiful up there, but at the moment it is a haven for criminals. With the campaign, I aim to create a presence. As part of the long term plan, we would like to have security personnel present on a 24/7 basis,” said Clr Humphreys.

As part of the campaign, Clr Humphreys has introduced clean-up initiatives, where she calls upon residents to join her for a clean up of the mountain every once in a while.

She revealed to the NEWS her plans to host interdenominational services on a Sunday.

“We will have people come with picnic baskets to fellowship and interact while on top of the mountain,” said Clr Humphreys.

Come Thursday, November 13, Clr Humphreys will host a public meeting which aims to address, among others, the Oriel stream, potholes, pavements, incomplete roadworks and road paintings.

The meeting is scheduled to take place at the Belgravia Bowling Club, in Sainsbury Street, and will start at 6pm.
