Child (2) found drowned after three hour search in Illiondale

“No less than 50 Edenvale residents showed up to help search for the child who had been missing since 3pm,” said Mrs McKenzie.

Illiondale residents are in shock this morning after two-year-old Vishandt Dabideen drowned in the family’s swimming pool last night.

A tearful Illiondale Resident’s Association (IRA) chairperson, Mrs Linda McKenzie, said this morning that she received a call at around 5pm last night of Vishandt’s disappearance.

“No less than 50 Edenvale residents showed up to help search for the child who had at that stage been missing since 3pm,” said Mrs McKenzie.

She added that residents from Eastleigh Ridge and the Avenues also joined in the search along with, officers from the Edenvale SAPS and a number of dogs.

Shortly before 6pm, the operations director for Mamba Strike Force, Mr Kevin Norman and Vishandt’s father Mahendra, found his tiny body the family’s swimming pool.

“He was under the pool cover. It was the most heart-breaking rescue,” said Mrs McKenzie.

She described little Vishandt as a beautiful child who loved nature.

“He did not deserve this. Our deepest sympathy goes to his dad Mahendra, mom Vash and two month old brother,” said Mrs McKenzie.
