Claims of third rape this month unfounded – SAPS

The information allegedly given to the mother was incorrect. The rape of her daughter was the only incident reported in the area.

According to the Edenvale SAPS, information handed to the mother of a young woman who was raped in the open field at the intersection of Palliser and Aitken roads was incorrect.

The acting spokesperson for the Edenvale SAPS, Lieutenant Colonel Robbie Roberts, said the station had only dealt with one case of rape this month and that was the incident involving the young woman in the greenstone area.

“The information allegedly given to the mother was incorrect. The rape of her daughter was the only incident reported in the area,” said Lt Col Roberts.

On July 15, the NEWS reported that a mother issued a warning to all women after her daughter was dragged into the open field at the intersection of Aitken and Palliser roads before she was raped.

According to the mother, when she reported the matter to the police, officers told her it was the third incident which took place this month.

Last night, anonymous members of the community placed a signboard at the intersection warning others that the area was a rape hot spot.

  1. do the police in this country even now what is going on? one says this the next say that. and even if it was incorrect does it make it ok that there was only one young girl raped? will we now have to wait till there is 3 or more cases before the police will do anything? this is sick and disgusting! the police are just trying to make the situation go away instead of addressing the problem. a girl was raped!!!! go do something!!!! but lets be honest that is never going to happen and that is why the community is doing what they can to try and stop it from happening again. we the law bidding citizens have to take matters into out our hands and resort to doing illegal things just to try and keep our wives and daughters safe.

    pathetic!!!!!!!!!

  2. Sadly we all know what country we are living in and we all know that we need to look out for ourselves. I don’t believe anyone wants to be raped and no one deserves it, but surely as a young women you should know how to look out for yourself. Walking around at night next to a veld is asking for trouble. Its easy to always point fingers at the SAPS and blame them for everything. I urge all people that comment about poor police service to resign from their jobs and apply for a job at the SAPS and put your life in danger for ungrateful citizens. I SALUTE the Edenvale SAPS!!!
