Township pets benefit from programme

The outreach projects assist in creating awareness about caring for pet animals as well as the role of the SPCA within each community.

The Bedfordview and Germiston SPCA recently completed an outreach project at the Good Hope and Transnet Diesel Depot informal settlement in Germiston.

The project was completed as part of the SPCA’s pledge for Mandela Day to make a difference in the lives of pets and pet owners who are in dire need of help and assistance.

SPCA staff members approached the community within the informal settlements to introduce the organisation to them.

The outreach projects assist in creating awareness about caring for pet animals as well as the role of the SPCA within each community.

On the day, staff from the SPCA also handed out much-needed blankets, dog and cat food to pet owners.

Pamphlets for educational purposes were issued on how to take care of domestic animals.

The SPCA staff conducted house to house visits educating people about their pets.

A number of animals from both informal settlements will be sterilised, vaccinated and dewormed at the Bedfordview and Germiston SPCA free of charge.

This will be done in connection with a number of veterinary clinics in the area which continually support the SPCA.
