Illiondale family held at gun point, 2 arrested

Two men who held a mother, her two small children and their domestic worker at gunpoint have been arrested.

Two men who held a mother, her two small children and their pregnant domestic worker at gunpoint have been arrested.

One of the men was caught close to the family’s Illiondale house yesterday, July 10, while the other two were arrested in Kempton Park after a car chase with security officers and members of the SAPS.

According to the operations director for Mamba Strike Force, Mr Kevin Norman, members of the Special Ops unit were alerted to the robbery when a neighbour heard screams.

“When the unit arrived on the scene, one of the two men outside the property fired three shots at one of our reaction officers,” he said.

The two men fled on foot, hijacking two vehicles in the process of their escape.

Officials at the scene of the arrest in Kempton Park recovered one firearm and also positively identified one of the stolen vehicles the men were using as stolen.

  1. As always, Mamba is on top of things. The most impressive security company I have ever had the pleasure of dealing with.

  2. Title says two arrested, article says one arrested nearby and two in Kempton? That’s three then?

  3. I do love how the involvement of members of the Illiondale Residents Association has no mention in the article whatsoever.
Had it not been for the IRA, Mamba would not have been alerted so quickly. Mamba had a response time of 30 seconds which is incredible.
SAPS only arrived after the first suspect had been caught by Mamba and detained by an IRA member so that Mamba could go back to looking for the remaining three suspects and not have to be tied up with detaining the suspect until SAPS arrived.
It just shows that community involvement is crucial in order to reduce crime.

  5. It was actually myself who notified mamba of the situation, and not IRA, as my domestic worker saw the 3 men jump over the neighbours wall! Mamba was on scene within minutes of my call being logged! Crime in our area is getting out of hand, not to mention the new Rape hot spot signs down the street!!

  6. I am the mother who was held at gun point. With my domestic worker and kids. I feel like I am living in the Wild Wild West, I mean East playing cowboys and crooks living in Illiondale. This story is so vague. Mamba Strike was amazing, and yes they were alerted by the watchful neighbour/domestic worker. Although, during my the 3 successful panic button attempts. My son ran out to my in laws who stay on the premises and they called the Edenvale police and my 16 year old who was also in the house hiding in a room ran out of the premises yelling for help . The opposite neighbour a member of the local IRA was outside and asked others for help …the highjackings etc took place after they exited. The guys were destined to be caught with so many individuals acting so quickly. It wasn’t just Mamba and the police though. It was the entire community fighting crime together
