Bedfordview SAPS retrieve hijacked truck

The truck driver was travelling along the N3 when he was stopped by two policemen next to a marked police vehicle.

The Bedfordview SAPS retrieved a hijacked truck after an armed robbery took place on the N3 freeway on Wednesday, June 24.

According to the Bedfordview SAPS communications officer, Sergeant Mduduzi Nhlabathi, the truck driver was travelling along the N3 when he was stopped by two policemen next to a marked police vehicle. When the driver stopped the truck, the officers drove away.

“Before the truck driver could start his vehicle and drive off, a white VW Citi Golf without a registration plate stopped next him. Two men exited the vehicle with firearms pointed at the truck driver,” said Sgt Nhlabathi.

“The suspects ordered him to lie down and they covered his face with a blanket. They took him to their vehicle and fled the scene with him. The men later stopped and left the truck driver in Olifantsfontein,” said Sgt Nhlabathi.

Bedfordview police officers received an anonymous call which provided them with information regarding a sighting of the truck in the Elandsfontein area.

“We responded to the tip-off and on arrival, we found the truck on the side of the road. The suspects had fled the scene. An investigation was undertaken and we discovered a gadget that is suspected to be a network jamming device inside the truck,” said Sgt Nhlabathi.

“We would like to thank the resident who gave the anonymous tip-off. We urge other residents to help the SAPS in combating crime by calling the sector vehicles when a crime occurs,” said Sgt Nhlabathi. @BedfordJourno
