Thembalami receives tanks, generator

The Thembalami Care Centre in Lombardy East is ready to weather all service delivery interruptions thanks to four JoJo tanks and a back-up generator.

Thembalami is a Rand Aid Association-run care centre caring for physically and financially vulnerable senior citizens.

Rand Aid carried the R500 000 cost of the generator and an anonymous benefactor paid for the JoJo tanks.

The tanks were installed in April and the generator in May.

“Thanks to the installation of the tanks and generator, we are able to continue providing uninterrupted services to residents. We can now ensure the safety and well-being of residents and staff at all times,” said Thembalami’s Matron Paulina Hlatshwako.

Thembalami had to make provision for back-up services after numerous water and power cuts.

“In addition, food was being wasted, the lack of hot water compromised the quality of residents’ lives and staff members were battling to render care in the dark,” said Matron Hlatshwako.
