Local swimmers perform well

Over 700 swimmers from more than 74 clubs, including clubs from as far afield as Namibia, Botswana, Mozambique, Zimbabwe, Kenya and Tanzania, took part in the event.

15 swimmers from Edenvale’s Aquatic Academy recently participated in the South African Level 2 Age Group Regional Championships.

The event was held at the Ellis Park Pool.

Over 700 swimmers from more than 74 clubs, including clubs from as far afield as Namibia, Botswana, Mozambique, Zimbabwe, Kenya and Tanzania, took part in the event.

“Our swimmers swam many personal best times,” said Ms Liz Humphrey from the academy.

The local club finished in 26 place with 147 points and six medals, which included two gold medals, three silver medals and one bronze medal.

Savannah Mitchell scored 37 points for the club.

She competed in four finals and won three medals.

She one gold in the 200 metre breaststroke event.

She then went on to win a silver medal in the 100 metre breaststroke event and a bronze medal in the 50 metre breaststroke event.

Caleb Rebelo scored 31 points for the team and swam three finals. He won a gold medal in the 50 metre backstroke event and a silver medal in the 100 metre backstroke event.

Jayden Trollope scored 23 points for the team and took 8.75 seconds off his previous best time to qualify for Level 3 in the 200 metre breaststroke event, where he won a silver medal.

Jayden also swam in the finals of the 100 and 50 metre breaststroke events and the 100 metre backstroke event.

Josh Rebelo and Ashleigh Stock swam in three finals, while Liam Stott, Nicholas Smith and Storm Ryder each swam in two finals.

Jessica Burgess swan in one final and Colette Fourie was selected as the first reserve in the 50 metre butterfly event. @BedfordEdenvale
