Col Maredi bids farewell to Edenvale

Col Maredi took over management of the Edenvale Police Station two years ago.

The Edenvale SAPS station commander, Colonel Sam Maredi, handed over the reins of the station to his successor, Colonel Eddie Trollip, last week.

Col Trollip will take over senior management at the station from this week, while Col Maredi will oversee the opening and management of a new police station in Tembisa.

Speaking at the Edenvale Community Police Forum (ECPF) on Thursday, Col Maredi thanked the community for welcoming him to Edenvale.

“You treated me like family and for that, I thank you. You supported me in times of hardship and worked with me to bring the crime down in Edenvale,” said Col Maredi.

“Edenvale is a good place with good people. The community is supportive and understanding,” he added.

He encouraged Col Trollip to build on what has been achieved in Edenvale.

“Do better than I did,” said Col Maredi.

“I will remember Edenvale and its community and will take what the community has taught me here and implement it in Tembisa,” he said.

He also thanked the executive committee of the ECPF for the role they played in assisting the SAPS.

“I have no words to thank you,” said Col Maredi.

He urged residents to carry on helping and supporting the SAPS under the leadership of Col Trollip.

Col Maredi then handed the floor to in-coming station commander Col Trollip, who assured the community he was there to serve them.

“I have been a police officer for 35 years, I know what my job is and I know how to do it,” he said.

“Let us be honest and fair in building up a relationship with each other,” Col Trollip added.

He said that Edenvale was one of the better stations in Gauteng and told residents they must not be afraid to call on him.

“I have an open door policy and I am here to serve each and every one of you,” said Col Trollip.
