Noisy neighbour frustrates residents

To add to the problems being experience at the house, tenants of the municipal property use one corner of the property as a rubbish dump.

Residents living next to municipal housing on Voortrekker Road, Edenvale, have had enough of an unruly neighbour.

Mr Gary Hampton, who owns a property situated next to the municipal housing complex, told the NEWS that for the past year a tenant at the municipal property, he only knows as Marius, has been causing havoc in the neighbourhood.

According to Mr Hampton, the man wakes up everyone from 11pm to 4am by screaming and shouting.

He sprays water on neighbouring house roofs and shouts profanities at anyone who asks him to keep it down.

Mr Hampton said that video evidence of the man’s behaviour has been handed to council on two previous occasions, but nothing has been done.

“He once threatened to shoot me,” said Mr Hampton.

He added that members of the EMPD as well as the SAPS have visited the site countless times, yet no one seems to be able to do anything about “Marius”.

He has also threatened business owners in the area.

To add to the problems being experience at the house, tenants of the municipal property use one corner of the property as a rubbish dump.

“Not only do we have to deal with a noisy neighbour causing problems at all hours of the night, but we are starting to have a rat and mouse infestation,” said Mr Hampton.

According to the previous spokesperson for the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality (EMM), Mr Samuel Modiba, shouting and threats by the person should be referred to members of the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department (EMPD).

“With regards to the accumulation of refuse and rubble, during a recent site inspection by an environmental health practitioner, only four refuse bags were found on the property,” said Mr Modiba.

“A spot notice was issued and the owner was given 14 days to remove the rubble and refuse,” he added.

“There were no signs of rodent infestation during the inspection, however the property will continue to be monitored,” said Mr Modiba.

Mr Modiba has since left the employ of the municipality.
