Philippines rescue team welcomed back

The South African Emergency Care team recently welcomed back the South African contingent of rescue personnel who assisted in the recent Philippines disaster.

Kensington pipe band, African Skye, performed for the crowd.

Typhoon Haiyan hit the island on November 8, killing many and displacing thousands. A rescue and relief campaign was immediately launched with aid coming in from many countries.

Ekurhuleni and City of Johannesburg firefighters were part of a South African rescue crew sent to the Philippines. The team was welcomed back home at SAEC on November 29.

Part of the SAEC Scott Safety Firefighting Rescue Challenge also took place on the night. Various firefighters, emergency personnel and other teams took part in the event which tested skills and strength.
