Mrs President leads Probus club
Bedfordview Probus Club inducted its first woman president recently.
Mrs Prue Wright was inducted on Tuesday last week in front of more than 60 members and guests at a function that was held at St George’e Village.
The recent Past President, Mr Mario Compagnoni, said that Mrs Wright is the first woman to lead one of the fastest-growing clubs in the region.
“Growth of the club has been evident in the recent years. We had nine new members during last year. This brings the total number to 55 members. Nine of those are women. There are now two women serving on the management committee of the club as well,” he said.
He said that the club has appointed a club historian to ensure that the highlights and achievements of the club will be readily available when the club celebrates its golden anniversary in 25 years’ time. In October last year, Bedfordview Probus Club celebrated its silver anniversary, 25 years.
“Probus is not simply a club for retired professional and business people; it is specifically for people of integrity, as the name, Probus, is related to probity, meaning integrity. It is a club for people who stand as role models for the new generation of professional and business leaders. Integrity is doing what is right, even when nobody is looking,” Mr Compagnoni said.
