Lack of maintenance due to budget

Council has blamed budget shortages for erratic maintenance of the municipal nursery in Edenvale Ridge.

This is in response to an article published in the June 26 edition of the NEWS regarding the degrading of the upmarket suburb.
In the article residents questioned why they should pay taxes when the area they live in degrades daily.
Third Avenue residents in Edenvale Ridge not only have to deal with unfinished installations while Eskom waits for a permit, the property on which the nursery is situated has become an eyesore.
In response to a media enquiry sent to municipal spokesperson, Mr Samuel Modiba, the NEWS was told that clearing “of the old parks nursery was done by a contractor early in June”.
“Maintenance is not frequent, due to budget,” Mr Modiba said.
He confirmed that the property currently belongs to the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality’s (EMM) Parks Department.
