Drug paraphernalia found in public park

Drug paraphernalia found in Surprise Park, Edenglen was handed to the SAPS.

The items found included used syringes and pipes used for smoking dagga.
Since the discovery, residents in the area surrounding the park have called on the SAPS to take immediate action.
Acting spokesperson for the Edenvale SAPS, Lieutenant Colonel Robbie Roberts, said it was alarming that the items were found in a public park, often used by young children.

“The number of items found indicates that this has been an on-going issue for some time. It also suggests that hard drugs such as heroin are being used,” Lt Col Roberts said.

One resident, who asked not to be named, told the NEWS that his family regularly sees vehicles stopped in the park for extended periods of time.
“The only reason we found the items was because my wife went up to the park to clean up the litter,” he said.
Lt Col Roberts has previously said that Edenvale SAPS has taken a zero tolerance approach to drug-related crimes in the area.
“This instance is particularly alarming because the park is often used by young children,” he said.
“We need to thank community members who continually take action against those who break the law,” Lt Col Roberts said.
“We will not let our youth be dragged down by drugs. This is serious and we will ensure that a thorough investigation into the matter is conducted,” Lt Col Roberts said.
