July 17–18 has been set aside for the only scheduled voter registration weekend ahead of the 2021 municipal elections, and with the country in the grip of a devastating third wave of Covid-19 infections, the Electoral Commission of South Africa (IEC) is hoping that a new online registration system for first-time voters will be in place by then.
