Rough Inside duo is ready to dominate the amapiano scene

Known for their infectious rhythms and groove, Alex's Rough Inside is ready to invade the music industry with their upcoming single called 'Beke le Beke Antik.'

Amapiano, the popular South African music genre, has been dominating the music industry with its infectious rhythms and grooves. The genre has become a global sensation, and two up-and-coming artists dominating the genre are Aphiwe ‘Logo’ Mankayi and Kamogelo ‘Kairo’ Moqayi famously known as ‘Rough Inside’.

“As a duo, we started doing music in 2018, we sing both Amapiano and Afro Pop but right now we are putting more focus on amapiano. Before we work on anything our hearts should be at the same place and be connected so that we make the best music. Since our performance at Xap Xap Soweto Fashion Show in June that performance worked as an ice breaker because now promoters recognise and book us,” Rough Inside said.

Both Moqayi and Mankayi were born in Alexandra, and they have been friends since childhood and have been making music together for several years. Their work is characterised by a unique blend of traditional South African rhythms and modern electronic beats.

“What inspires our music is the original music that happened here in Mzansi, the likes of L’vovo Dirango, Brenda Fassie, kwaito and house music. Also, the hunger of wanting to be successful and the excitement of being on stage is what always wake us up in the morning.” Rough Inside said.

Moqayi and Mankayi also draw their inspiration from a variety of sources, including their personal experiences and the vibrant music scene in Alexandra. They often collaborate with other artists in the genre, bringing together diverse influences and styles to create something truly unique.

“We have a song that we will be dropping on July 7, called ‘Beke le Beke Antik’ that will be available on all digital streams,” Moqayi said.

In addition to their music, Rough Inside is also known for their energetic and dynamic live performances. They have performed at clubs and festivals throughout South Africa and have gained a loyal following of fans who appreciate their infectious energy and passion for their craft.

“Alexandra is a community of pride and talent so one has to work extremely hard to succeed and offer something different from others to be recognised. You have to always make sure that you leave your mark because they value only the best,” Mankayi said.
They are not only musicians, but they are also hustlers who adventure in the fashion world. ‘We work with the brand called Antik, the most anticipated brand here in Alex, and we sell almost everything be it clothes, shoes, hats etc,’

According to the Rough Inside in the next coming years, they are hoping to be having a record label so they could help the youth of Alexandra off the streets because Alex has a lot of undiscovered talent.
