From a homeless street boy to gospel star

Gospel musician Nsindiso Mazeka urges aspiring songbirds to never give up on their dreams come rain or sunshine but to keep chasing and one-day things will come to fruition.

Nsindiso Mazeka has come a long way from his days of being a homeless street boy when he first set foot in the hustle and bustle of Johannesburg, and Alexandra in particular, in 2017 to the gospel music star he is today.

Mazeka (25) was orphaned back home in Greytown in KwaZulu-Natal following the death of his mother, Funani, in 2016. He is from a town that is better known by its Zulu name of eMdlovana and he decided to move to the bright lights of Johannesburg where everything and anything happens.
“Armed with an address, I decided to move from home to eJozi in order to search for my brother Njabulo Lindokuhle Mazeka, who worked somewhere in the City of Gold, but not knowing where to go and start looking for him, I ended up on the streets,” Nsindiso told Alex News in an interview.

After a couple of months in the streets with other boys, Nsindiso managed to trace his brother and they were reunited and he lived with his brother. Having taken his love for gospel music from his late mother who used to stage music shows to survive, Nsindiso pursued his dream by attending audition after audition with no success.
A pastor from his church noticed the talent and hooked him up with renowned gospel singer and producer Sipho Ngwenya, who auditioned Nsindiso and loved what he saw and took him on. “That was my lucky break,” he said.

He then started his music career as one of the backing vocalists for Ngwenya then Thina Zungu, Londiwe Sphe Nxumalo, and others after which he was eventually recorded by Nxumalo under his LondyZwide Music Label to release his first live song, Sithi Bayede, released this year on January 29.
Asked how the song was doing, Nsindiso retorted, “So far so good”. Having been in the industry for years and working with established artists, Nsindiso said this gave him an advantage for his single to get traction on the various social media platforms.

The Ngcolosi Secondary School matriculant of 2016 in Ntunjambili in Kranskorp said the single is all about praising the Almighty, whom ‘I believe had a hidden hand in guiding me to my brother and connecting me with gospel powerhouses that have crafted me to be what I am today’.
Nsindiso has a profound message for other aspiring singers out there. “Live your dreams and never give up. Keep chasing all the time and one day it will come to fruition.”
