Mpho Tharaga aims for greater opportunities in his music career

Alex-based hip-hop, amapiano and afro-pop musician Mpho Gift Tharaga has just released a new album.
The young artist said he was born and bred in Soshanguve in Pretoria, and moved to Alexandra in 2021 to better his music career.

“I fell in love with music in 2013 when I was just nine years old. My mother was a very big fan of Lundi Tyamara the gospel singer, I became a fan too. I started to be interested in gospel music until I recognised an international artist known as Lil Wayne, that’s when I started to love hip-hop,” Tharaga said.

“On July 26, I released an album titled Baldwin, it’s a tribute to my late brother Baldwin Tharaga. The album has 10 songs that are featured with several trending musicians in South Africa including DJ Dadaman, the Phusha skorokoro hit maker, Kosha ZA featured on the Tse nnyane song by Vusi MaR5, Village Boyz, Boybiggie and more.

He added he had also worked with international artist Ben Brainy from Ghana, and upcoming international artists, Maluty from Lesotho, Hodie from Peru, Nigeria’s Virtuez and Zambia’s Peng G.

Tharaga said he aimed to start his own record label that will sign international artists, for his music to trend globally and for him to grow into the industry[music] so he can be able to help local artists get recognised.

“My message to the youth is that in life you have to figure out your talent and work hard at it because it is what God gave you to make a greater living.

“What I always say to people is that the road to success is never beautiful, which means hustling is never easy. You will go through many challenges but because of passion, you will manage to keep going, and it’s very important to be passionate.”
