Pridwin reaches out to Alex residents in need on Mandela Day

MELROSE – On July 18, a team of parents and learners reached out to Alexandra residents with critical food supplies.

Learners and parents at Pridwin Preparatory School, based in Melrose, joined hands on Mandela Day to support those affected by looting and riots in Alexandra.

Marketing manager at Pridwin Demi-Rae Le Roux said, “At Pridwin, our aim is to make a meaningful contribution to the society we live in and equip our boys with the values and compassion to understand that with their privilege comes a responsibility to the communities that we are a part of.”

Le Roux added that each grade identified an organisation to work with to make a meaningful difference.

“Our aim is to build a sustainable and meaningful relationship with these organisations.

“In times of crisis, such as what our country has experienced in the last week and the year preceding this, these small acts of kindness and service are just a temporary relief to those most vulnerable.”

Inspired by the words of Nelson Mandela that ‘there can be no greater gift than giving one’s time and energy to help others without expecting anything in return’, many Pridwin families provided care packages to meet the most pressing needs at these organisations.

Sandwiches were made and food parcels packed into eight vehicles that headed to Alexandra, where the Pridwin team worked with a local community centre and two church groups to distribute supplies to those most affected by the looting.
