Suspect arrested following botched carjacking

KEW – Mogodi explained that the arrested suspect, a 25-year-old, has been detained at the Bramley Police Station while police search for the suspect who escaped.

Bramley police arrested a man, suspected to be a carjacker, at a hotspot in the Kew area on July 7.

The spokesperson for the Bramley Police Station Captain Molefe Mogodi said that police members parked their patrol van along 4th Avenue, near 9th Road, in Kew in order to observe what was happening around the area.

“It was alleged that while on observation, two men came walking to the intersection and approached a stationary VW Polo,” said Mogodi.

“One of the men allegedly pulled out a firearm and pointed it at the driver.”

Mogodi said that once police noticed what they were doing, they quickly approached the two suspected men in an attempt to apprehend them.

“Both suspects ran away with the police hot on their heels. One suspect was arrested while the other got away.”

Mogodi explained that the arrested suspect, a 25-year-old, has been detained at the Bramley Police Station while police are searching for the suspect who escaped.

One replica firearm was seized from the arrested suspect.

The suspect will be profiled to determine whether he is on the police wanted list or not.

The suspect is expected to appear in court soon.
