Alex Cloudy Gang 911 brings a wave of love into local hip-hop music

ALEX – Local upcoming music group releases its first EP.

A young hip-hop music group from Alexandra has released their first Extended Play (EP), Phanda le Cash (get this money) which contains eight songs.

The group, Cloudy Gang 911, consists of five members and was formed in 2016 by Eugene ‘Eugeneous’ Selemela (17) and Sanele ‘Chicks’ Mbewu (16). They were later joined by Tebogo Ramahlare (18), Tshepang Sethojane (16) and Nhlanhla Phikwa.

Selemela said they were inspired by their mentor and his elder brother Moses ‘Man Giza’ Selemela and other local music stars such as the late Nkululeko ‘Flabba’ Habedi, a local hip-hop music artist, who they said always ‘fed’ them with a positive spirit when they listened to them.

“We all come from 12th Avenue in Alexandra,” added Selemela. “In 2016, we discovered that we all have a love and passion for music. Because we wanted to do something that would keep us away from bad company and negative people, we decided to start Cloudy Gang 911 music group to spread the spirit of love to music lovers and encourage our peers to stay away from wrong-doing.”

He said their main aim was to inspire and encourage young people to do the right things and stop wasting their time doing the wrong stuff.

“We have many young people involved in crime and taking substances, simply because they have nothing to do with their time when they are not at school. We want to be a good testimony to our peers. Our EP speaks mainly to young people. We speak a language of love, hustle and self-love and we want to inspire young people to do well at school and in society.”

Selemela concluded that the EP would soon be available on all digital music platforms for downloads.
