Free electricity with your Volvo

As part of Volvo Cars' global campaign to increase sales of fully-electric and hybrid-powered vehicles, Volvo has introduced an incentive scheme to provide free electric driving.

After the recent announcement of the Volvo XC40 Recharge, Volvo has introduced a global incentive scheme where owners of plug-in hybrid and full-electric Volvo vehicles will receive a refund of all electricity used in the first year of ownership. Known as the Recharge campaign, South Africans can rejoice as the campaign is also being rolled out locally. “In South Africa, this offer applies to the Volvo XC90 T8.

The official measurement of electricity used will start in May 2020. After a year of driving this car, the owner/main driver will receive a complete refund equivalent to the cost of electricity used to power the car,” Greg Maruszewski, Managing Director of Volvo Car South Africa.

The Recharge campaign offer will apply to all plug-in hybrids ordered from October 16 after which owners can monitor the total amount of electricity used via the Volvo On Call app. The offer will only apply to motorists that own the vehicle for at least the first 12 months whereby the refund is calculated using the data received from the Volvo On Call app. The Recharge campaign will also see all Volvo Cars built with either plug-in hybrid or fully electric powertrains will be branded Recharge from 2021.

With the anticipated increase in demand, Volvo has announced that they will be tripling their production as of 2020, of both plug-in hybrids and fully electric vehicles while aiming to reduce its lifecycle carbon footprint per car by 40 per cent between 2018 and 2025.
