BMW 8 Series loses its head

Despite subtly announcing pricing towards the end of last year, BMW South Africa has now officially confirmed final pricing for the 8 Series Cabriolet.

Like its coupe sibling launched last month alongside the all-new Z4, the drop-top Eight will only be offered in flagship M850i xDrive guise with motivation coming from a 4.4-litre bi-turbo V8 that produces 390 kW and 750 N.m of torque. As per the moniker, drive is send to all four wheels through BMW’s xDrive all-wheel-drive system via the sports-tuned eight-speed Steptronic gearbox.

Fitted as standard with the M Sport differential, Adaptive M suspension and riding on 20-inch M light alloy wheels, the cabriolet will complete the 0-100 km/h dash in 3.9 seconds, 0.2 seconds down on the coupe, and reach a limited v-max of 250 km/h.

Available with a choice of two colours for the fabric roof, black or optional Anthracite that can be lowered and raised in 15 seconds at speeds up to 50 km/h, noteworthy standard equipment consists of sport seats trimmed in Merino leather, the BMW Live Cockpit Professional layout made up of the 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and 10.25-inch iDrive infotainment system with 7.0 operating system, Adaptive LED headlights with optional Laserlight units, leather wrapped M steering wheel, Heads-Up Display, Collision Warning, Active Cruise Control, Lane Departure Warning and Lane Change Warning and a 16-speaker Harman Kardon sound system with wireless smartphone charger.

Outfitted in a selection of eight colours;  Alpine White, Mineral White Metallic, Carbon Black Metallic, Dravit Grey Metallic, Black Sapphire Metallic, Barcelona Blue Metallic, Sonic Speed Blue Metallic and Sunset Orange Metallic, the cabriolet is priced at R2 009 859, a jump of R122 033 over the coupe.
