Nominees announced for the Naledi Theatre Awards on 20 May at Joburg Theatre

JOBURG – The Naledi Theatre Awards winners will be announced on 20 May.


The Naledi Theatre Awards nominees for this year were revealed at The Fringe, Joburg Theatre on 11 March.

The awards, whose winners will be announced at a glittering event at the Joburg Theatre on 20 May, have been in existence for 15 years and are recognised as the premier awards event on the Gauteng theatre calendar.

The musical, The Color Purple, which premiered at Joburg Theatre in February last year, was honoured with 13 nominations including Best Production of a Musical by Joburg Theatre and Bernard Jay and Janice Honeyman for Best Director of a Musical.

The Joburg Theatre and Bernard Jay 2018 pantomime, Janice Honeyman’s Snow White was nominated for Best Director (Janice Honeyman and Timothy Le Roux); Best Supporting/Featured Performance in a musical (Desmond Dube and Ben Voss) among others.

“I’m so grateful to Xoliswa Nduneni-Ngema and the team at Joburg Theatre for continuing to take on such large-scale projects as The Color Purple and Janice Honeyman’s Snow White,” said Bernard Jay, the show’s executive producer.

“2018 was a very fulfilling year for me and I’m now thrilled to see so many of my colleagues on these shows being acknowledged for their work in this way. Congratulations to all the nominees and to each and every theatre practitioner in South Africa.”
