Local artist urges young aspiring artist not to give up

ALEXANDRA – Malunga was astonished by music lovers' response to his first songs, especially the international community.

The home-brewed music of 24-year-old RnB artist, songwriter and music producer Nhlakanipho ‘2Real’ Malunga has received a positive reception from music lovers locally and beyond the borders of the country.

Malunga who was born into a musical family in Durban, KwaZulu-Natal and moved to Johannesburg last year released his first Extended Play (EP) titled Ngekebalunge in October last year which has since received international airplay in other countries including the United States of America.

His EP features hits such as Ungatsheli Muntu (Don’t tell anyone) and I’m on my way.

“I started doing music at the age of eight in a school gospel choir. At the age of 12, I became a lead vocalist in the choir.

“While I was in gospel, many hip-hop artists would feature me to do chorus lines in their songs and that was when I realised that there was something in me,” he said.

“In 2015, I worked with a Durban-based hip-hop group called Team Skinny on their album and I decided that I will do my own thing from there. I started writing the three songs featured on my EP in 2017. Last year I decided to move to Johannesburg so that I can get a chance to record my craft which I believe has an authentic and original RnB sound.

“Through my manager’s help, I successfully recorded my songs at Downtown Studios in Johannesburg.”

Malunga said he was astonished by music lovers’ response to his first songs, especially the international community. “My songs have been played on online music platforms in countries like the USA, France and Britain. To be honest, I never thought that the reception will be so great.”

He urged young aspiring artist to persevere and never give up on their dreams and continue working hard even when it seems impossible to make it.

2Real’s music is available at online music outlets.
