Kasi theatre in Maboneng

JOHANNESBURG – Jefferson Tshabala and Kiri Pink Nob Productions will bring some exciting kasi theatre to Maboneng.

The Kiri Pink Nob Productions will host an exciting summer programme at the Pop Art Theatre in October.

Launched by writer, performer, and director Jefferson Tshabalala, Kiri Pink Nob Productions will bring the township arts into the spotlight in the Maboneng Precinct. Tshabalala said, “We tend to think the only good theatre takes place in ‘posh’ suburban theatres. I want audiences to discover the invigorating arts scene and professionally run theatre productions which are emerging in the townships.”

“Our aim is to invite productions to our kasi (home) theatre venues and take kasi theatre to venues beyond the townships. There is a large and passionate theatre audience existing in Alexandra who have to travel far to enjoy theatre, so it is imperative we finally bring the theatre circuit to them.”

This brought about the idea for ‘Kiri goes Kasi’, an umbrella project which Tshabalala with his production company alongside Ntshieng began as a pilot for new townships arts tradition which began in September this year.

The production Game Show will be performed throughout October at the Pop Art Theatre in Maboneng. Tshabalala said, “It’s a game show meets talk show meets sketch show of epic proportions.”

Tickets sell for R80 via Webtickets and R100 at the door.
