Mixed feelings for Twitter’s 280 character upgrade

Twitter has increased the character limit for tweets to 280 characters, but not everyone was happy with this.

For months, microblogging site Twitter said it was planning to increase the limit for tweets from 140 to 280 characters and finally on Wednesday the upgrade was released.

Aliza Rosen, product manager at Twitter, said this would make it easier for people to express themselves as this will give them more freedom (and space) to get their points across in one tweet.

“Our goal was to make this possible while ensuring we keep the speed and brevity that makes Twitter, Twitter. Looking at all the data, we’re excited to share we’ve achieved this goal and are rolling the change out to all languages where cramming was an issue,” Rosen said.

But the change was not well received by everyone, with many saying this the increase in character limits was unnecessary.
