Rising star plans to offer skills training to youth of Alex
ALEXANDRA – Actress, Thandeka Motha plans to offer skills development coaching to young people of Alex.
Thandeka Motha, a young Pantsula dancer, is the latest star to come out of Alex and features on SABC 1’s new dance drama series, Tjovitjo.
In an interview with Alex News, Motha explained that while growing up, she has always been different to other girls.
“While other girls were playing with dolls, I was busy with the boys learning new dance moves,” Motha said.
This would often worry her parents as chances of her falling pregnant at an early age seemed high.

“My parents were against my passion for dance. They would tell me that boys should not play with girls, but I would hear none of that.”
Motha would sneak out of the house on weekend to dance without her parents knowing.
Pantsula dance introduced the 24-year-old Motha to a whole new world of acting.
Without revealing much about her debut character Ndika, Motha said they both shared similarities.
“Like myself, Ndika’s parents do not want her dancing at all. They think it [dancing] would open up Pandora’s box.”
She plans to open an organisation which offers skills development to young children of Alex through dancing.
“I am also a skills coach, so I want to incorporate the two [skills coaching and dance] to empower young people and use my experience as motivation that if you put your mind to something, anything is possible.”
Motha has been featured on dance competitions such as Turn It Out, Jika Majika and Stumbo Stomp: Amapantsula, which she won.
The money that Motha has made from Tjovitjo and Stumbo Stomp: Amapantsula went into a savings account and will go towards forming her non-government organisation.
