Debut Album: Done and dusted

JOBURG – The album is out and it's no secret.

The Ain’t Nobody got Time for That hit-makers, Rubber Duc, is now proud to release their first full album.

Since releasing their first single more than two years ago, Rubber Duc has signed with Gallo Records, made their music career official and band member, Nick Jordaan, is telling City Buzz all about it.

How has the reaction been towards the album, The Secret Sunrise?

The reaction to the album has been great! We have had people message us on our social media channels telling us that it has blown them away. It’s always pretty cool hearing that. We have people who haven’t seen us in ages coming up to us to congratulate us, telling us the same thing. I think the best is seeing people in the crowd singing along to almost every song! That’s a first for us. Albums are selling fast at shows and we are very positive as we still have lots of singles to release which will push the album for quite some time.

How many singles did you release before the album?

There are only two singles on the album that were previously released meaning that there are 10 brand-new songs on the album which are all potential singles. That’s exciting!

Will you be touring the album or getting straight into the next one?

We kind of do both at the same time. We travel with our recording equipment that allows us to do pre-production while we are on the road. Touring the new album is very important, but the writing must continue in preparation for the next one!

Your first big hit came out many years ago and now there’s an album, but was an album always in the plan or did it just happen?

The album was always on the cards. We had set deadlines for it over a year back. We clearly missed those deadlines! So in other words, we have been working on this album for over two years.

What was the best part of recording a full album?

Hearing all your ideas come together. It’s one thing when the song is raw, but once you start polishing it the whole thing just ignites. We also had the privilege of working with ex-Zebra & Giraffe front man Greg Carlin, as well as Grammy award-winning producer Darryl Torr.
