From KwaZulu-Natal to Jozi, Damian Hattingh is taking on a different lifestyle to achieve his dreams.
Hattingh is one of the newest aspiring musicians to hit the local music scene, and he’s hoping to make it big with his melodic beats and hard-hitting lyrics – and it’s been a long time coming.
The former Amazimtoti resident now resides in Sandton and Kempton, working hard to independently produce and market the music which, for him, began as an emotional outlet.
“I started writing when I was in Grade 7 because since I was young I always had a lot of self-conflict – which you’ll hear when you listen to [the music] – so, I started writing to deal with things but then I’d just throw it away,” Hattingh explained. It was just last year that the ambitious rapper decided that instead of throwing his music away, he would let the public in on his deepest thoughts and feelings.

“My music isn’t about fake things. I don’t want to portray a false image because the everyday listener is not rich. I wanted to take an approach that meant a lot to me. I’m writing for the people like me, who don’t have money to throw away and who have experienced heartbreak,” he explained.
With his music on various sharing platforms, including Soundcloud, the world has access to his music and he has access to a world stage.
Referring to the response he’s received from his first three singles, he said, “The response has been incredible. People really like it, so I’m happy. It’s crazy that someone else can enjoy the music that I’m writing about myself. They’re listening to it and singing along – it’s incredible!” he said.
