With the high competition going on in the South African hip-hop industry, Yung Swiss doesn’t seem to be phased by the rivalry as he is riding in his own lane – and is doing so very comfortably.

Yung Swiss entered the music industry with his first commercial single last year. I Love It, featuring Reason, made the hip-hop industry take notice of him, bringing him nationwide radio airplay on platforms such as 5FM and YFM.

Last year, he released his second single David Genaro, from his EP titled The Desiree Project. The track garnered nationwide popularity and the attention of local drama series, Rhythm City, to which the single has become somewhat of a theme song, being aired multiple times during the screening of credits, pre- and post- the TV drama series.

Growing up, Swiss said he was hugely influenced by the rhythm and blues sound, which helped him to become the kind of artist he is today.

“I try to be different when I am making songs, whatever I feel like saying that day just comes out,” he said.

Having gone through hardship as an upcoming musician, Swiss encouraged young artists to have confidence in their abilities and believe in their craft. “I believe that the more time you invest in what you want, the easier it’s going to get.”
