LISTEN: Khuli Chana relives dreadful shooting in new documentary

JOBURG – Khuli Chana reveals the moments that changed his life forever in tell-all documentary.

Multiple award-winning musician Khulane Morule, popularly known as Khuli Chana, is set to release his documentary titled Picking Up The Pieces.

It reveals more details about the 2013 incident when he was shot by police in a case of mistaken identity, and covers his life since then. The rapper recently reached a settlement with the police in the Johannesburg High Court after a two-year battle.

In 2013, Khuli Chana was arguably the biggest artist in the country as he scooped all the music awards on offer, and topped radio and TV music charts throughout the country.

A media screening of the documentary was held at the Mall of Africa on 22 June.

In an exclusive interview with the North Eastern Tribune, the rapper admitted he had not fully recovered from the shooting. “To be real I am still working on it. I still take two pills for anxiety every day of my life,” he said.

“It changed my life. It changed me. I wasn’t the same person. It distracted me from my plan of being this guy who puts out hits, to now going to court to fight for justice.”

The rapper said the incident had now become part of his life but he does not let it get to him as it used to.

“I have always had this loyal fan base and I felt like I owe them the truth, hence we came up with the documentary.”

Picking Up The Pieces also highlights some of Morule’s proudest moments including being a father of two-year-old daughter Morule.

The documentary also features interviews with different people who are close to the rapper. They share their side of Morule’s story and insights to some of the things that went on behind the scenes after the incident that the public did not know.

Now that the case is done and dusted the hip-hop star is now focused on taking his brand to the next level and is expected to release an album later this year.

“I have got a lot of hits coming up. I just had this burden that I needed to get off my chest,” he said.
