Saftas red carpet presenters announced

JOBURG - The man who brought an all-new personality to the Idols SA judging panel, Somizi Mhlongo, has been chosen to be a red carpet presenter at the South African Film and Television Awards (Saftas).

Mhlongo, an actor, dancer and choreographer; and arts and entertainment journalist, Nadia Neophytou, will be the two presenters working the red carpet at the 2016 Saftas on 18 and 20 March.

And who better to present the 10th Saftas when fresh life is being breathed into the awards with a new look and theme, Imagine, than these two brand powerhouses.

“We are delighted to be working with Somizi Mhlongo and Nadia Neophytou, both of whom are homegrown talents that have built stellar, long-standing careers,” said Zama Mkosi, CEO of the National Film and Video Foundation of South Africa.

“They are at the peak of their game and have also enjoyed longevity.”

The famous Idols judge is more than excited to take on the challenge. “Taking this gig was less about the money and more about being a part of history and the biggest event on the awards calendar in South Africa,” Mhlongo said.

“I’m looking forward to bringing something different, something… Somizi to the Saftas 2016 red carpet as a presenter.”

Born in Benoni and currently based in New York, Neophytou will be returning to the country just for the awards ceremony. “I am very excited to be heading home to SA to co-host the Saftas red carpet,” said Neophytou.

“I’m looking forward to interviewing the filmmakers, producers, actors and TV stars who’ve been nominated. I’m looking forward to seeing who takes home the Golden Horn.”
