A Raisin in the Sun

Premiered on Broadway in 1959, Lorraine Hansberry’s drama was one of the first to bring the experiences of an African-American family, pre-civil rights, to the stage.

The story follows the struggles of Walter and the Younger family in the rundown South Side of Chicago. When Walter’s elderly mother inherits a large sum of money, the family’s sense of pride and identity is put on the line as mama decides to buy a house in a white neighbourhood.
