Popular Alex actor, Mavuso Magabane, formerly Meshack Mavuso of Isidingo fame, will be back on the small screen in an e.tv action-packed drama, Heist, which debuts on 9 February.

Besides involvement in Heist, Magabane will also debut soon in the popular e.tv soapie, Rhythm City, which also features well-known Alex resident, Mduduzi Mabaso as Suffocate, and like Magabane, are both products of Linda’s Victory Siyanqoba Theatre Company.

This will be after close to a three-year absence from the TV limelight since leaving Isidingo to do other things, one of which was to take over the baton of theatre development in Alexandra soon after the passing of Alex theatre doyen, Bongani Linda in April 2013.

“I have found a new home at e.tv, and if they look after me as they have done with numerous other actors, I am here to stay,” said the man who since found a new home in Midrand. “I still consider myself as a resident of Alexandra. I live in Alex and sleep in Midrand,” he said.

Magabane plays the role of a cop in Heist, along with other supporting actors in that capacity and believes Heist, as an action-packed drama series, is one of the best productions to have ever come out of South Africa.

“We’re tired of action dramas only being produced in [the United States of] America. We also want our own action dramas, though many people tend to believe it is too costly to produce an action drama,” Magabane said.

The notion of costly action dramas was countered by Heist producer, Rolie Nikiwe, who said technological advancement had made it easy and cheaper to produce action dramas.

The Heist cast features, among other actors, veterans Jerry Mofokeng and Kenneth Nkosi, and talented youngster Wright Ngubeni, including newly-discovered talent by the name of Mbali kaNgwenya.

Details: Mavuso Magabane 072 829 1283.
