Breaking ground in Newtown

NEWTOWN – Newtown, the precinct that is currently undergoing massive development, has officially announced that two Joburg City Auto dealerships will soon form part of the neighbourhood.

At a soil turning ceremony held in Newtown, Stephen Nale, dealer principal and owner of Joburg City Auto BMW, currently the only 100 percent black-owned BMW dealership in SA, broke ground at the site where two new dealerships of the Joburg City Auto franchise, Joburg City Auto BMW and Joburg City Auto Ford will be built.

“This significant milestone, breaking ground for the building of the Joburg City Auto dealerships has been years in the making and required not only foresight but careful planning, leadership and philanthropy,” said Nale.

He added that the venture would create employment and create expansion in the motor industry. “Once the development is complete, we hope to create in the region of 200 additional permanent jobs.”

The building of these dealerships will contribute to the Gauteng Provincial Government’s plan to regenerate the Joburg CBD, as outlined by Gauteng Premier David Makhura in his address at the ceremony.

“The building of Joburg City Auto dealerships in Newtown is the first step in the Gauteng Provincial Government’s vision that by 2020, together with the private sector, the Joburg CBD will be fully regenerated through a planned project that will see a R10 billion investment into the area,” explained Makhura.

In closing, Makhura thanked Nale for his contribution to the upliftment of the Johannesburg CBD, by having the drive, determination and vision to invest in the future regeneration and growth of the inner city.
