Calling music video makers

JOBURG - This summer, whiskey brand Jameson wants to put their money where their mouth is and get more meaningfully involved with the film and music community.

The company is known for its contribution to the film industry with a number of campaigns including the Jameson Cult Film Festival, during which classic sci-films are screened; and now they’re providing music video directors with an incentive to produce the best.

Making a music video is usually a labour of love, but getting the necessary funding can feel like drawing blood out of a stone, so to bring the next killer video idea into existence, the company is offering R100 000 to the director with the most fearlessly authentic concept.

What they’re looking for is an original, exciting visual idea to accompany an equally incredible song.

Just because we love the city, City Buzz has a list of five Johannesburg venues that could be used to make amazing music videos:

  1. Bounce Inc – Jumping from wall to wall, on trampolines, will add an element of carelessness and fun to a music video
  2. Mary Fitzgerald Square – It has ample space in which a crowd could be filmed
  3. Fox Street in Maboneng – Mi Casa has already shot the music video for Your Body in this space, but with all the stores and restaurants in the area, there is so much more to shoot
  4. Poolside – Maboneng’s very own public pool makes for the perfect venue to record a fun day in the sun
  5. The markets – Neighbourgoods Market and Market on Main are great spaces to use.

Entries close on 31 January, so get producing and make Johannesburg proud.
