DJ Arch Junior goes to the finals of SA’s Got Talent
JOBURG - Although slightly overawed by the big stage of the semifinals of ETV's South Africa's Got Talent, Alexandra's very own internationally acclaimed kid DJ wooed the crowds with his finger tip skills on the decks.
Soon after his performance in the semifinals at the Soweto Theatre in Jabulani, the voting lines were opened for the public to pick their choice and South Africans voted to propel the country’s youngest DJ sensation to the finals.
Appearing in the third and last semifinal of the competition, DJ Arch Junior, whose real name is Oratilwe Madumo, garnered the most votes out of six other semifinalists and automatically qualified for the finals on 6 November.
If he wins the competition, DJ Arch Junior, a three-year-old who can hardly string together a sentence in a conversation, will be R500 000 richer.
When he first appeared in the competition for auditions, one of the competition judges, DJ Fresh, used his golden buzzer option to him to send the boy straight to the semifinals without going through the other stages of the competition.
“I was overwhelmed by the talent of this kid, such that I felt he needed to go straight into the semifinals without having to endure the trouble of going through the other stages of the competition soon after the auditions,” he said at the time.
DJ Arch Junior came on the scene in December last year after a video of him mixing house music went viral, both in South Africa and abroad, such that a company in Germany has sponsored him with mixing decks.
Soon after the results were announced, Alex News was allowed behind the scenes for a chat with his dad, Glen Hlongwane, a Phase Two resident in Alex and sports trainer in Roodepoort.
“I am excited by his advance to the finals. It’s just me and a three-year-old child who is doing wonders on the decks with his fingertips. I want to thank South Africa for trusting us with their votes and it would seem now that the sky could be the only limit for DJ Arch Junior,” said Hlongwane.
