Behind the scenes with Cyprian

JOHANNESBURG – Young up-and-comer Cyprian Ndlovu is one of the hot new Club808 presenters, and he let City Buzz in on how he stays in shape and manages to cope with being in the limelight.

The hunky youngster broke into the music business when he made the top three in the MTV Base VJ Search, before making his way over to Vuzu, where he was a presenter for a year. Now, he’s taking Club808 by storm.

“You know when you go to work and you’re free to be yourself?” he said.

“I feel like it’s a way of de-stressing for myself as a presenter. My crew that I work with, we’re like a close-knit family. That’s what I love about being on Club808, its allowed me to take life easy and enjoy my work.”

Going on TV every day can be quite a daunting prospect for some, but not for Cyp, which is what his mates call him. However, he insists that you have to be prepared for what comes with it. “You kind of have to prepare for whatever comes your way, because if you’re not ready, it can be hard to balance.”

It’s not all work and no play for this star. He revealed that he likes to keep fit by hitting the gym at least twice a day – if he can. Which is probably why he was voted as one of The Sowetan’s Mzansi Sexiest Males. “I’m really happy about that. I feel like any recognition for anything that you do is amazing. However, I don’t go to gym to be on any sexiest calendar, I go there simply for the lifestyle.”

So how does he keep his body in shape? Ndlovu admitted that his family struggled with diabetes, despite being very active, and that’s not a trap he wanted to fall into. “I try eat as healthy as possible and gym as much as I can in a day, at least twice. In a week, I go five or six times. It’s nothing that I force on myself, it’s something that’s become like second nature – when one doesn’t go to gym for two days in a row, you just feel like there’s something wrong, I feel weaker, I’m lazier.”

Although, when ‘cheat day’ rolls on, he likes to indulge in burgers, pancakes or Nutella.

“I feel like one shouldn’t really stress themselves too much on bad meals,” he explained.

“I’d hate to be the one that counts every single calorie there is, how much sugar – I don’t want to be obsessive like that. I want to do the best I can to live a healthy lifestyle.”
